Audio editing is a complicated area, something you know by just looking at most programs. With an overload of options, effects and buttons, lots are more than a little intimidating, which is why any attempt at simplification is more than welcome.
Luckily, AVS Audio Editor seems to have realized this and the latest version of their audio editing software is particularly easy on the eye. The program has adopted an interface style that has become very popular in recent times, and it certainly makes it easier to apply and manage the effects that AVS Audio Editor offers.
Another welcome feature is the ability to take audio from CDs which, added to the normal method of importing files and the direct recording feature, gives you even more options for grabbing your tracks. The AVS Audio Editor preview function allows you to hear effects before you apply them, but unfortunately you can't preview the effect when applied to you music.
Although using AVS Audio Editor is now a far more comfortable task, it has failed to provide features that would make it accessible to beginners. Without wizards, tutorials or guides and providing only a help file that must be downloaded separately, AVS Audio Editor really isn't aiming to attract newcomers to the area. While the effects are many and varied, the application handles lots of formats (including the ability to save output as M4V, so you can use it as a ringtone!) and a few nice extras, such as batch editing and customizable toolbars, AVS Audio Editor is still way too complicated for the beginner, but not quite complicated enough for the pro, leaving it in an uncomfortable no man's land.
AVS Audio Editor is attractive and multifunctional, but will intimidate absolute beginners.
